Does The Recession Affect Relationships?

The following question is courtesy of Angela (Editor in Chief of Essence Magazine)

IN TIMES OF EQUALITY, WHERE MEN AND WOMEN ARE TREATED EQUALLY, WE UNDERSTAND THAT IT IS MANDATORY FOR THE GUY TO PAY FOR THE FIRST DAY, BUT SINCE WE ARE IN A RECESSION SHOULD THE WOMEN PAY FOR SOME OF THE DATES TOO OR IS CHIVALRY DEAD?

First, props to Angela for managing to get equality, recession, and chivalry into one question and confusing us all at the same time.

I don't think that the recession has anything to do with this at all, but I do feel that it would be very crazy for someone to invite you somewhere where they can't afford to take you. I couldn't imagine someone asking to take you somewhere and then when you get there they expect you to pay for both of you. Besides if you can't afford it, don't ask just stay in because if it's that big of an issue, it is going to take a toll on the relationship anyway. Ladies, don't be TOO independent to let the man be a gentlemen. If you think that there's a sexual obligation in it and you don't want that then don't try to takeover and become the man. Simply, don't attend the rendezvous or be safe and ask first because you're going to look just as crazy paying for both of you simply because you don't want to sleep with him and if he is that type if male and you don't want that then you don't need to go out with him in the first place.

But I will be honest when I tell you that not having money can ruin a relationship, but I don't fault the recession for that. I don't know many people that lost money during the recession. If they didn't have money, they didn't have it in the beginning. The recession is all about big companies in my opinion. So it may have ruined some business relationships. Maybe you are a business owner with your significant other. Is it affecting you?
